What does this workshop offer?

Shared decision making is a key component of patient- centered health care. It is a process in which clinicians and patients work together to make decisions and select tests, treatments and care plans based on clinical evidence that balances risks and expected outcomes with patient preferences and values. Decisions about surgery, medications, self-management, and screening and diagnostic tests are a few examples of scenarios where shared decision making would be beneficial.

The main focus of this session will be to build a relationship with the patient and help the patient with major decisions, but not coerce them into a decision.

Objectives of this workshop:

  1. Build a relationship with the patient.

  2. Share their opinion without making the patient feel overpowered.

  3. Guide patients through tough medical decisions.
