Meet Dr. Dabota!

Dr Dabota Yvonne Buowari is a Nigerian anaesthetist and emergency physician.  She is a member of the Research Collaboration Network of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors NARD) conducting the ‘CHAllenges of Residency TrainIng and early career Doctors in Nigeria Study (CHARTING Study)’. She is the vice-chair of the work-life balance special interest group of the Medical Women’s International Association (MWIA), She is a co-lead in the paper writing project of the ethics working group of Junior Doctors Network.  She is a member of several research groups. She won third place in both the Lifebox poetry competition and the Nigerian Medical Association 2017/2018 national essay contest.

 

She won third place in the Nigerian Medical Association 2016/2017 essay contest. In 2019, she was awarded the Dr Esther Pohl Lovejoy award by the Medical Women's International Association. The awards she has received in 2021 were the researcher of the year award from the Society of Lifestyle Medicine of Nigeria and she was one of the awardees of the Global Emergency Medicine award from the Academy of Women in Academic Emergency medicine (AWAEM). She is a Co-Chair of the Research and Statistics Committee of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors.

 

Dabota is a prolific writer and she has authored books, articles and chapters in edited books. Her latest book published in 2021 is titled ‘What You Need to Know about Women’s Heath’

She has contributed recipes published in several cookbooks. She loves art and nature.  Besides being a doctor, she is also an author, historian and poet.
