Meet Prof. Mary Mathew!
Dr. Mary Mathew is a Professor and Head of Pathology and a fulltime faculty involved in teaching undergraduates and postgraduates in Pathology for the past 25 years at Kasturba Medical College Manipal. She completed her M.B.B.S, D.C.H and MD in Pathology from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, Karnataka, India. Her areas of specialization include Medical renal and Pediatric Pathology and currently is the Coordinator for the Centre for Fetal and Perinatal Pathology at KMC, Manipal. She is the recipient of the Bill and Melinda Gates grant for her work in Neonatal brain injuries. She has 115 publications in national and international journals and is a reviewer for 8 journals. She received the James McAdams Short-Term Study grant in May 2019 from the Society for Pediatric Pathology, to train in UPMC Childrens Hospital, Pittsburgh, USA. She was awarded a 5-year scholarship in Pediatric Pathology by the International Pediatric Pathology Association. She also holds a postgraduate Diploma in Medical Law and Ethics from the prestigious National Law School, India University, Bangalore, India. She received her MUFIILIPE FAIMER Fellowship in Interprofessional Education & Practice in 2016. She was the Head of the Karnataka State Bioethics unit and Manipal Unit of the International Network of the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics (Haifa) and is currently the Head of the Indian Program of the International Chair in Bioethics (Porto). She is the Secretary of the Association of Medical Educators of India(AMEI). She has been actively involved in organizing workshops and courses for the students and faculty at Manipal University and other universities. She is the Head of the National Training and 3T IBHSc Program for Health Professionals in Bioethics. She is the co-editor of Global Bioethics Enquiry, a scholarly publication of the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics.
She is a fellow of the International Organization of Psychological Medicine and is an invited speaker at conferences.
