Dr Shimpa Sharma

Pro-Vice Chancellor and IQAC Director of the D Y Patil Education Society Deemed University Kolhapur

Dr Shimpa Sharma is an alumnus of the Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College, Mumbai, where she acquired her MBBS and MD (General Medicine) qualifications.
Presently the Pro-Vice Chancellor and IQAC Director of the D Y Patil Education Society Deemed University Kolhapur, she is a Professor in Medicine at the Medical College and a FAIMER Fellow (2019). Lifelong learning is a passion as evidenced by a MBA in Hospital & Healthcare Management and a slew of certificate courses from Online Learning and Bioethics to Artificial Intelligence and Statistical Software. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Medicine.
A keen researcher, she has 24 indexed publications of which 10 are in Scopus and PubMed. She has published one book and has applied for 3 copyrights. She has been able to design and implement internal QA processes in her capacity as IQAC Director due to the unstinting support of management, staff, and students.
Her interest in Bioethics dates to her 4-years of experience as Professor and HOD at an International Medical College in Mauritius. It has been strengthened through the association with the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics and now the International Chair in Bioethics, WMA Cooperating Centre. She has 4 research papers on Ethical issues to her credit. She believes that when ethical perspectives form the core of every action, the world is a better place for all. The importance and relevance of ethics in daily life and professional practice are paramount and non-negotiable.
